WORK IN PROGRESS: Community Weaving
ES artists are creating a community textile weaving. Each student is encouraged to bring a fiber (perhaps a piece of string or fabric) to be woven into the artwork. The material should have special meaning to the student - perhaps a shoe lace from a favorite pair of shoes; a bit of fabric from a special outgrown shirt; a strip of wrapping paper or travel map; or a plastic bag from a favorite store. Upon completion, our community tapestry will be displayed in the elementary school.
...the thoughts and stories behind the fibers woven into our weaving
- Red is my favorite color and it's my favorite string because some parts are see through and the outside is like a frame. -May 3L
- It's my favorite team and I like to play soccer and I went to the Chelsea stadium in England. -Josh 2H
- It was woven in a quilt I got as a baby. My mom's friend made me a quilt and my mom gave her all the supplies like ribbons, cloth, and different materials and I still have the quilt and the end of my bed. -Theo 3L
- It's a ribbon for a present. I really like presents. I like giving them and getting them, I really like how everyone smiles when I give them a present and so I wanted to make my ribbon represent presents because I really like them. -Lola 3L
- My pajamas. When I first wore them I got the hives. -Nicoli 3G
- This is from Finland. We visited the North bole to meet Santa. I met the real Santa. I lived in Finland before I came to Vienna. My best Christmas gift from Santa was wrapped in this ribbon. -Aahaan 2H
- This is Vietnamese, it is a little bit of a Vietnamese dress we bought in the Bit Sam Market. You can get much things there. -Nicola 2M
